How updates work

When an update is available, Shopify shows a notification on your Themes page. Updates create a new copy of the theme — your current published theme is not modified. After updating, review your customisations in the new copy before publishing.

Custom code: If you have made edits to the theme's Liquid, CSS, or JavaScript files, those changes will not carry over to the updated copy. We recommend keeping custom code in a separate snippet or asset file where possible, so it can be re-added after updates.
