General
Which Shopify plans does NOVA support?
NOVA works on all Shopify plans — Basic, Shopify, Advanced, and Plus. All features are available on every plan.
Does NOVA work with my existing apps?
Yes. NOVA supports @app blocks in all templates. Apps that use Shopify's theme app extensions (reviews, upsell, loyalty, etc.) will display in the theme editor as drag-and-drop blocks.
Can I use NOVA on multiple stores?
Each Shopify Theme Store purchase covers one store. To use NOVA on additional stores, purchase a separate licence for each.
Is NOVA translatable?
Yes. All merchant-facing strings are in locale files (en.default.json and en.default.schema.json). You can add translations for any language supported by Shopify, or use a translation app like Weglot or Langify.
Does NOVA support multi-currency?
Yes. NOVA is Shopify Markets ready. Prices, currency symbols, and formatting update automatically based on the customer's market.
Customisation
How do I change colours?
Go to the theme editor > Theme settings (gear icon) > Colours. Select a preset to start with, then adjust individual tokens. Each section also has a colour scheme selector.
How do I use the inflection heading?
In any heading field, wrap a word in underscores: _word_. That word renders in the accent font (Newsreader italic by default). Example: "Editorial _commerce_".
Can I change the fonts?
Yes. Go to Theme settings > Typography. NOVA uses Shopify's font picker, so you can choose from the full Shopify font library. The default self-hosted fonts (Schibsted Grotesk + Newsreader) are optimised for performance.
How do I set up the mega menu?
Create a nested menu in Shopify admin > Navigation > Main menu. Add menu items with child items. NOVA automatically renders one level of dropdown columns on desktop and an accordion on mobile.
How do I add a size guide?
Create a "size_chart" metaobject definition in Settings > Custom data > Metaobjects. Add a "body" field (rich text). Create entries for each size chart, then link them to products via a metafield reference. The product page shows a "Size Guide" link automatically.
How do I enable colour swatches on product cards?
Name your variant option "Color" or "Colour". NOVA generates swatches from variant images automatically. For custom swatch colours, add a colour metafield to each variant.
Troubleshooting
The header is not transparent over the hero
Make sure the Hero section is the first section on the page and that "Enable transparent header" is checked in both the Header section settings and the Hero section settings.
Product images look stretched or cropped
Check Theme settings > Shape > Card image ratio. Set it to "Natural" to display images at their original aspect ratio, or ensure your product images match the selected ratio (default is 4:5 portrait).
Filters are not showing on the collection page
Filters are powered by Shopify's storefront filtering. Enable filters in Shopify admin > Online Store > Navigation > Collection and search filters. Add the filter groups you want to display.
Animations are not playing
Check Theme settings > Motion > "Enable animations". Also check your OS/browser accessibility settings — NOVA respects prefers-reduced-motion and disables animations when that preference is active.
Cart drawer is not opening
Ensure JavaScript is enabled in the browser. The cart drawer requires JavaScript for AJAX updates. The full-page cart (/cart) works as a fallback without JavaScript.
Custom code was lost after a theme update
Theme updates create a new copy of the theme. Custom Liquid, CSS, or JS changes in theme files do not carry over. We recommend keeping custom code in separate snippet or asset files so they can be re-added after updates.
Performance
What Lighthouse scores does NOVA achieve?
NOVA targets Lighthouse Performance >= 90 and Accessibility >= 90 on homepage, collection, and product pages. With optimised images and minimal apps, scores of 97+ are achievable.
How do I keep performance high?
Use compressed images at the recommended sizes (see Setup > Image sizes). Limit third-party apps that inject scripts. NOVA lazy-loads below-fold images and defers non-critical JavaScript automatically.
Does NOVA use external font CDNs?
No. The default fonts (Schibsted Grotesk and Newsreader) are self-hosted as woff2 files in the theme's assets folder with font-display: swap. The two primary weights are preloaded. If you switch to a Shopify font picker font, those are served from Shopify's CDN.
